Lebanese dwarf Yasmina El Haddad, 16, with her sister Zeina and her mother Aline inside the Hyatt hotel in Burlingame, CA, on July 7, 2004. Yasmina has met one dwarf only in her entire lifetime before she traveled to the convention. More than 1800 dwarves gathered at the annual convention of the Little People of America (LPA) in Burlingame, CA, for a week of workshops, seminars, sports, parties and sightseeing. The gathering was also an opportunity to forge friendships, meet potential spouses and escape the stares and whispers of the “average-size” world. Little People of America (LPA) is a nonprofit organization that provides support and information to people of short stature and their families. Dwarfism is usually defined as a medical or genetic condition that results in an adult height of 4'10" (125 cms) or shorter.
